We are all creatures of habit. We keep doing things in the same way until change is forced on us or we decide to make a change. For what must have been years I had been saying to myself “I really need to exercise”. I would start very enthusiastically and then I would stop. I always had a good reason why I couldn’t do it.

I do not even remember how I finally made an internal commitment that exercise be an integral part of my life. There was no crisis that prompted me to get serious. Looking back I would say that I just got tired of making excuses to myself. Part of me knew what was good for me while the other part kept finding ways to ignore that. Once I stopped giving myself a choice about exercising I just scheduled it into my weekly schedule. Since that time my new habit is that exercise is just part of my life as are so many other things like brushing my teeth, making the bed, cleaning up the kitchen, etc.

It is when we make an internal commitment to do something that accomplishing what we want becomes easier. By getting “off the fence” and challenging ourselves to take action we strengthen our personal foundation.
