Build a Strong Personal Foundation with the 20 Minute a Day Plan

A strong personal foundation is the result of being in control of our life.  It is the daily steps we take to manage our life that bring long term results.

I love to cook and enjoy browsing through cookbooks.  Recently  I found an old cookbook and was disappointed  that there were no recipes that appealed to me.  Then on the second to last  page under Notes I discovered a real gem: the 20 minute-a-day plan.  This is how it works:

“Every day set aside 20 minutes and exactly 20 minutes; no more, no less. Do one task. Clean one drawer, wash one window, weed the garden,  or polish the silver.  Never deviate–take only 20 minutes and then stop until the next day.  Tackle one job at a time.”

This plan really appealed to me.  There were so many tasks that I never got around to because I said to myself that they would take too long.  Once I decided to tackle them in daily 20 minute blocks the tasks no longer felt overwhelming.  I have now been following the plan for three weeks and love what I am accomplishing.  I started with the kitchen and then moved on to closets and drawers in other parts of the house.  Twenty minutes is indeed doable.

I would happily suggest that every one incorporates the 20 minute a day plan into their life.  A friend who has a hard time incorporating exercise into her busy life  has decided to walk daily for 20 minutes.  The discipline of doing something specific every day for 20 minutes will go a long way towards building  a strong personal foundation.
